Anlässlich des 80. Geburtstags von Miles Davis tauchen die beiden Musikelektroniker Steamin Horn und Evil Corner für WDR 3 open: FreiRaum in die Klangwelt von Miles Davis ein und setzen sich vor allem mit dessen Jazzrock-Phase auseinander. Die Musik wird gefiltert, fragmentiert, dekontextualisiert und neu arrangiert.

Mit klassischen Aufnahmen, Reportagen, Hörspielszenen, Interviews und Hörerwünschen

In der sechsstündigen Sondersendung klingen viele Miles-Davis-Alben an, von "Miles Ahead" aus dem Jahr 1957 bis "Doo-Bop" kurz vor seinem Tod 1991. Darüber hinaus wird der auch heute noch einflussreichste Jazzmusiker in Reportagen ("Wie feiern die anderen?") und Hörspielszenen dargestellt. Weitere Bestandteile sind Interviews mit dem Miles-Davis-Biographen Ian Carr, Enrico Merlin, Michael Gibbs, David Toop, dem Essayisten Gerald Early ("Miles Davis als amerikanischer Ritter und amerikanische Schurke") sowie ein Miles Davis-Horoskop. Über die gesamte Strecke der Nacht verteilen sich persönliche Statements ("Miles & Me"), verbunden mit dem jeweiligen Lieblingsstück des Befragten. Höhepunkt wird die Aktion "My favourite Miles", bei der Hörerinnen und Hörer von WDR 3 per Internet das beste Album von Miles Davis wählen.
